Russia's arsenal of weapons is growing.
Especially at sea, Vladimir Putin seems to be relying on new types of weapons.
Moscow – Russia is upgrading its arsenal of weapons.
Vladimir Putin has been adamantly opposed to the West since the start of the Ukraine war.
He sees an existential threat to Russia in NATO.
So it's no wonder that the Russian head of state is showing off modern weapons - also in the case of the new submarine "Belgorod".
On Friday, the Russian Navy commissioned the Belgorod K-239 submarine at an official ceremony at the Sevmash shipyard in the north of the country, British news portal Express reports.
The submarine is said to be around 182 meters long, making it the longest submarine in the world, and weigh around 24,000 tons.
Russia: New submarine will be able to carry nuclear torpedoes
According to Russian information, it is a research ship designed to carry out various scientific experiments in remote areas of the world's oceans.
However, the Belgorod is arguably designed to carry a destructive weapon: the Poseidon nuclear torpedo.
The torpedo is said to be around 20 meters long and can dive 1000 meters deep.
This torpedo is no different from a nuclear weapon.
Since the torpedo dives very deep, it is said to be difficult to intercept in the event of combat.
As recently as April, Russian talk show hosts fantasized about how a nuclear tsunami would “wipe Britain off the map.”

, around a dozen of the torpedoes can be accommodated in the front part of the "Belgorod".
Nikolai Evmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, praised the completion of the "Belgorod": "Today is a significant day for us - the signing of the acceptance protocol for the Belgorod research submarine and its transfer to the fleet.
During the construction of the ship, advanced achievements of science and the latest construction technologies were used, using the existing technical reserves." (marv)
