It will be oppressively hot in Germany from the weekend.

But will the temperature records also fall?

And how long does the heat last?

Munich - The heat wave is melting half of Europe - and Germany is next.

Numerous places in Spain, Italy, Portugal or Greece are currently reporting temperatures of over 40 degrees and higher.

This is also blooming for us here in Germany at the weekend - thanks to the high pressure area "Iosif", temperature records could fall.

The heat is making its way from the Iberian Peninsula to Central Europe.

At first the temperatures will be over 30 degrees, at the latest on Sunday this also applies to the far north.

Heat wave reaches Germany: "It's absolutely extreme"

Patrick Panke, meteorologist from

wetter.de

, predicts: “There are definitely 35 to 40 in the southwest.

And the only question that really arises here is: will it just be hot or will it be extremely hot?” According to this, Karlsruhe or Freiburg are candidates for temperatures above 40 degrees.

This would mean a record for both places.

The city in Breisgau is currently recording 39.4 degrees as a record temperature, the city in Baden 38.8 degrees.

"I've never seen such temperatures for Germany in a weather model," writes ZDF meteorologist Özden Terli on Twitter, adding: "It's absolutely extreme."

It should also remain tropically warm at night - the mercury hardly drops below 20 degrees.

And how long does the brooding heat last?

"At the start of the new week, there is still no sign of cooling in the south," says Panke.

It is unclear how long the heat will last.

There is a low over Scandinavia, but it remains unclear when the dividing line between hot and cold will shift.

The

editorial network Germany

speaks of a period from Sunday (July 17) to Saturday (July 23).
