Hamburg is the city of millionaires and the super-rich, that's a well-known fact.
But where do they live, what do they have and who belongs to them besides the usual names?
Hamburg – It is well known that the Hanseatic city is particularly popular with the rich and super-rich in Germany.
But how many millionaires are there in Hamburg?
And how did the numbers develop?
Current figures give an insight – and they have it all, as reported by 24hamburg.de.
And this despite the fact that the pandemic has not yet been taken into account.
Also thanks to the online business boosted by the coronavirus pandemic, Klaus-Michael Kühne's assets alone grew by a whopping 20 billion euros.
The richest in Hamburg, the second richest German and HSV patron Kühne holds, among other things, the majority in the logistics group Kühne + Nagel and shares in the shipping company Hapag-Lloyd.

Federal Statistical Office: number of income millionaires has increased – pandemic not yet taken into account
The Federal Statistical Office has now published numbers of citizens subject to income tax who earn at least 1 million euros a year - and thus have to pay tax.
Or just more.
The numbers now communicated are from 2018, but as the Federal Statistical Office announced, they are the most up-to-date on the subject.
Because of the long deadline for submitting the tax return, the figures are only available about three and a half years after the taxable year.
Also means: The effects of the coronavirus pandemic 2020 to 2022 will only be available in a few years.

But even before that, the number of income millionaires in Germany had increased, as reported by Tagesschau.de.
In 2018, a total of 26,300 citizens in Germany had income in the millions that was subject to income tax.
That was around 1,500 more than in 2017. 1,247 income millionaires paid their taxes in Hamburg in 2018.
This was announced by the Statistics Office North.
Hamburg – city of the rich: Highest concentration of millionaires in Germany
Based on the small population of the city-state and thus the total number of taxpayers, most millionaires lived in Hamburg according to Tagesschau.de in 2018.
According to this, 12 out of 10,000 Hamburgers achieved at least 1 million taxable income.
This puts Hamburg ahead of Bavaria.
The federal states of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia lagged behind, each with two millionaires under 10,000 taxpayers.

Naturally, there is a world of difference between a man from Hamburg, with an income of at least 1 million euros, and Klaus-Michael Kühne, with assets of around 37 billion euros.
But more or less up-to-date figures can also be found about the number of billionaires who live in Hamburg.
On the current “World's Billionaire's” list by Forbes magazine, there are 9 Hamburg billionaires.
These include the Otto family, Fielmann, the Tchibo heirs and the heiress to Bauer Verlag, Ivonne Bauer.
Kühne, as the richest Hanseatic city, is one of the 30 richest people in the world with his wealth.
Wealth-X ranking: Rich, richer, Aldi heirs – 16 billionaires living in Hamburg in 2015
Kühne is also ranked second in the Handelsblatt newspaper – there with assets of 39.9 billion US dollars.
However, unlike the Forbes ranking, ahead of Dieter Schwarz (Lidl / Kaufland), but behind Beate Heister and Karl Albrecht Junior, the children of Karl Albrecht and heirs of Aldi Süd.
Both are said to have USD 44.1 billion – cousin Theo Albrecht Junior and his family, as heirs of Aldi Nord still have 21.6 billion (7th place, according to Handelsblatt).
Apart from Kühne, there is no Hamburger in the top 10 of the Handelsblatt ranking.
In 2015, the Wealth-X ranking (according to Manager Magazin) for Hamburg showed 16 billionaires - fourth place of all federal states in Germany.
At that time, their assets totaled 45 billion euros.
The height that Klaus-Michael Kühne almost alone owns seven years later.
Millionaires in Hamburg: It doesn't always have to be bold - rich celebrities and entrepreneurs from Hamburg
Among the almost 1,500 Hamburg income millionaires there are likely to be many people who are unknown to the public, but many celebrities who live in Hamburg can also be counted among them.
Celebrities living in Hamburg include TV presenters Oliver Geißen and Reinold Beckmann, comedians Mike Krüger and Otto Waalkes, Nena, scooter frontman HP Baxter, Jan Delay, Udo Lindenberg, Ina Müller, Smudo, Tim Mälzer and Steffen Henssler.

Many entrepreneurs beyond the usual names live in Hamburg and have their company headquarters in the Hanseatic city.
This includes, for example, About You founder Tarek Müller, who would like to hold the office of Hamburg mayor in the long term, or Heiko Huberts, founder of the software company BigPoint, whose fortune Die Welt estimated at 200 million euros years ago, or the married couple Stefan and Anne Lemcke, founder and manager of the company for spice mixtures Ankerkraut.

Tax office data show: This is where Hamburg's super rich live
While all possible assets are used for the rankings by Forbes, Wealth-X and others and the figures are only estimates, the figures from the tax offices provide more reliable information about the level of income and the place of residence of the rich and super-rich in Hamburg.
328 income millionaires live in the catchment area of the Tierpark tax office, near Tierpark Hagenbeck.
This is traditionally responsible for Othmarschen and Blankenese on the Elbe, but also Harvestehude and Rotherbaum on the Outer Alster.
According to Bild, the places of residence of the Tchibo heirs, but also of Guido Maria Kretschmer, fall into this financial district.
117 millionaires live in the financial district of Oberalster with the districts of Alsterdorf and Pöseldorf.
The district of Barmbek-Uhlenhorst follows in 3rd place with 89 millionaires. The financial district of Harburg brings up the rear.
Only 27 millionaires pay their income tax here.
Among those should be YouTuber MontanaBlack, who now lives in the Süderelbe area.
The streaming star is followed by 2.9 million people on YouTube alone.
