Biden to visit Augusta Victoria Hospital and thus for the first time US President to visit a Palestinian institution in the east of the city • Members of Congress expressed concern: "The visit will reward the Palestinian Authority which supports terrorist acts, terrorist attacks and violence against Israeli citizens on the Temple Mount"

During his visit to Israel, US President Joe Biden is also expected to visit Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem.

The expected visit to East Jerusalem is provoking opposition among politicians and public figures in Israel and the United States. Last week, Israel's former ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, published a letter in the American media, in which he called on President Biden not to come to East Jerusalem.

Following the letter and talks that Danon has had in recent days with members of Congress, an initiative began to take shape in Congress last weekend, in an attempt to change the route of the president's visit to Israel and cancel the tour of the eastern capital.

Congresswoman Beth Van Dion of Texas has begun signing members of Congress with a petition calling on President Biden not to visit the hospital in the east of the city.

The petition states that members of Congress are expressing concern following reports of Biden's intention to visit East Jerusalem.

"As you know, Jerusalem has long been recognized as the capital of Israel," it read.

Members of Congress petitioned that Biden himself had previously supported the unification of Jerusalem: "The 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Law, in which you supported your being a senator, illustrates US policy of maintaining Jerusalem as a united city, while preserving religious freedom and equal rights for all religious and ethnic groups." .

The petition also warns that the visit "will reward the Palestinian Authority, which continues to support terrorist acts, terrorist attacks and violence against Israeli citizens on the Temple Mount."

Dozens of members of Congress are expected to sign the petition that will be delivered to the president today.
