A familiar face leaves the Munich “Polizeiruf”.

The protagonist has other plans in the future, TV fans learn.

Munich – Verena Altenberger gets off at the Munich “Polizeiruf 110”.

She is looking for "new acting challenges", said

Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR)

on Monday (July 11).

Altenberger has been investigating in the ARD Sunday thriller as police commissioner Elisabeth "Bessie" Eyckhoff since 2019.

At that time, she had succeeded Matthias Brandt in the “Police Call” team.

Verena Altenberger leaves "Polizeiruf 110": "Pull me on and I'm looking for new challenges"

"It was difficult for me to say goodbye to the Munich 'police call', Elisabeth Eyckhoff has become very dear to me over the past four years," the 34-year-old was quoted as saying.

"I'm a person who likes to go when it's most beautiful, I'm drawn to further and I'm looking for new challenges.

I'm excited to see what's in store for me now, I'm looking forward to seeing you again somewhere else and say goodbye quietly (and kisses, Baba).”

Altenberger has embodied the character five times so far.

"I've learned a lot, I've experienced a lot, and I was able to rediscover Munich, this great city." The thrillers with Altenberger's investigator figure and changing teammates reached between 5.03 and 7.87 million viewers.

New investigator in the "police call"?

BR plans to report on the successor soon

The broadcaster expressed regret at the departure.

"Polizeiruf 110" is one of the most traditional series on German television, and the Munich police call 110 is a particular highlight.

From Gaby Dohm, or Michaela May and Edgar Selge to Matthias Brandt and finally Verena Altenberger: they all told great stories and won the hearts of the audience and the critics," wrote BR program director Bettina Ricklefs.

Altenberger will have her last shoot as Elisabeth "Bessie" Eyckhoff this fall.

Her sixth case, working title "Paranoia," is scheduled to air in the first half of 2023.

BR will inform about Altenberger's successor "soon".
