Serious accident on A2: Truck drives to the end of the traffic jam – at least one person dies

A serious accident occurred on Tuesday on the A2 near Burg in Saxony-Anhalt.

Two vehicles burned out on the A2 on Tuesday after an accident.

The salvage work is ongoing and difficult.

Burg - On Tuesday there was a serious accident on Autobahn 2 near Burg in Jerichower Land (Saxony-Anhalt).

A truck driver died as a result.

More dead are suspected.

The driver of the truck is said to have driven into a traffic jam at around 12.40 p.m. on Tuesday and pushed a car with a caravan onto a truck driving in front.

A police spokeswoman said in the early evening.

The two rear vehicles then caught fire and, according to the information, burned out completely.

A thick cloud of smoke formed at the scene of the accident.

The rescue on site is still ongoing, the police said.

However, the rescue work was difficult because, according to the police, the car with a caravan was a hybrid vehicle.

It had to be flooded because of the battery in a special container, said the spokeswoman.

After the accident: A2 closed in both directions

During the extinguishing work, the A2 was completely closed in both directions.

According to the information, traffic in the direction of Hanover was diverted at the Burg-Zentrum junction, in the direction of Berlin at the Lostau junction.

As the police reported, a truck drove in the direction of Hanover to a traffic jam.

The truck went up in flames.

The A2 is an important east-west connection, and serious accidents involving trucks occur again and again.

On Tuesday morning near Marienborn (Börde district) on Saxony-Anhalt's border with Lower Saxony, a truck drove unbraked into a traffic jam and pushed three other trucks into each other.

Three truck drivers were seriously injured, police said.

Several liters of operating materials were distributed on the road and in the embankment.

The autobahn was still closed there in the evening in the direction of Hanover.
