The leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group in Syria, Maher al-Agal, was killed in a US airstrike on Tuesday, NBC News reported.
Al-Agal was one of the four main leaders of ISIS, according to a spokesman for the Pentagon Central Command (CENTCOM, in English).

A prominent Al-Agal associate was also hit by the attack, but it is not immediately known if he is still alive, according to a CENTCOM statement.
"The removal of these ISIS leaders will disrupt the terrorist organization's ability to plot and carry out attacks," said Colonel Joe Buccino, a CENTCOM spokesman.

This is the latest in a series of attacks against the terrorist group in Syria carried out.
According to the Pentagon, a senior ISIS leader and bomb maker was captured in an operation in June.
The organization's top leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, was killed in February during a nighttime raid by US special forces in northwestern Syria.
