Eight candidates are officially in the running to become the new leader of the Conservative Party and ultimately the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the party said on Tuesday July 12.
Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss, Tom Tugendhat, Penny Mordaunt, Kemi Badenoch, Nadhim Zahawi, Jeremy Hunt and Suella Braverman mustered the 20 sponsorships needed, said Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative parliamentary group tasked with setting the ballot rules.
The name of the next Prime Minister will be known on September 5.
