The committee of inquiry into the attack on the US Capitol meets again.

This time the hearing is to revolve around right-wing extremist groups.

NEW YORK - The July 12 commission of inquiry into the attack on the US Capitol plans to look at the role of far-right groups and their links to former US President Donald Trump.

This is a focus of the public hearing, reported US media, citing committee members.

It is about discussions between members of right-wing extremist groups such as the "Oath Keepers" and "Proud Boys" with political actors in Trump's environment.

The committee announced the hearing for 1:00 p.m. (local time/7:00 p.m. CEST).

The board's leadership in the United States reportedly wants to depict the rise of the far-right, violent groups that attacked the Capitol - and explain how Donald Trump influenced the mob.

"We will be making connections between these groups during these hearings and those in government circles who have attempted to overturn the election," committee member Zoe Lofgren told CNN on Monday.

Donald Trump: Supporters stormed the Capitol

On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters violently stormed the seat of parliament in the capital Washington.

Congress met there to certify the victory of Donald Trump's Democratic challenger Joe Biden in the previous presidential election.

Five people were killed in the riots, including a police officer.

Donald Trump had recently incited his supporters at a rally by claiming that his election victory had been stolen.

The committee is working on the attack and its causes.

On Friday, former White House Counsel to then-President Donald Trump, Pat Cipollone, testified behind closed doors before the panel.

Lofgren said on Sunday that excerpts from Cipollone's testimony would be made public.

"He was able to provide information on virtually every critical issue we deal with," she said.

"That includes what I would call the President's breach of duty on January 6."

USA: Quick results expected from committee of inquiry

Two weeks ago, a former White House employee made an impressive statement that shed new light on the Capitol attack - and raised the question of legal consequences for Trump.

According to her, Trump is said to have been aware of possible violence on January 6, 2021.

Cassidy Hutchinson, 26, told the investigative committee that he knew the demonstrators were armed.

Trump dismissed the allegations as "lies and fabricated stories" and spoke of a "witch hunt".
