Benediktbeuern - Fatal crash on the Benediktenwand: On Tuesday afternoon (July 12), a 51-year-old woman from Kaufbeuren died.

According to the police, the hiker climbed out of Gschwendt with her sister in the direction of the Tutzinger Hütte.

"Before they reached the hut, the two women separated, only to meet again later at the hut," said Lars Werner, deputy head of the Bad Tölz inspection department, on Wednesday.

While one sister was satisfied with the ascent to the hut, the other sister, who was described as fit and experienced, wanted to climb to the summit of the Benediktenwand alone.

Large-scale search operation

However, after she never arrived at the Tutzinger Hütte, a large-scale search operation was initiated by the mountain rescue service and the police.

The Lenggries, Bad Tölz, Wolfratshausen and Benediktbeuren mountain rescue services were involved.

The police were on site with a helicopter and officers from the Alpine Task Force.

During the night, the missing 52-year-old was found dead in the Benediktenwand area.

However, due to the darkness and the exposure of the terrain, it was not possible to get to the person until the next morning.

Otherwise, the emergency services would have put themselves “in considerable danger”, according to the police.

No official way

According to previous knowledge, the woman from Kaufbeur wanted to descend an exposed path below the summit – which, according to the police, is occasionally climbed by local people with the appropriate equipment.

It is not an official path, rather this so-called Maximiliansteig leads through high alpine terrain.

According to the police, it cannot be finally clarified whether the woman went astray or followed a tour from the Internet.

Likewise, due to a lack of witnesses, there will be no answer to the question of why the 51-year-old fell and finally fell about 70 to 80 meters over steep, rocky terrain.

The victims were rescued by the Alpine Police Task Force and a police helicopter - "in good cooperation" with the locally responsible mountain rescue service in Benediktbeuren.

says the police.

A mountain guide from the Alpine Action Group of the Bad Tölz Police Inspectorate has started the investigation.
