Turkey will host talks with Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations on Wednesday on the export of grain cargoes at Ukrainian ports, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Tuesday.

"Tomorrow (for this Wednesday), in Istanbul, the military delegations of the defense ministries of Turkey, the Russian Federation and Ukraine, as well as the United Nations delegation, will hold talks for the safe shipment of the cereals that they expect in Ukrainian ports to international markets by sea," he said.

This comes after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held separate calls with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts on grain exports on Monday.

Ukrainian authorities claim that more than 20 million tons of grain remain stuck in Ukraine due to Moscow's blockade of Black Sea ports.

Ukraine wants to speed up grain exports through the reopened Danube River routes

By Kostan Nechyporenko, Vasco Cotovio

A warehouse in Bakhmut containing grain was hit by an airstrike on the morning of Thursday 9 June.

Ukraine hopes to speed up grain exports through the recently reopened Danube River Bystre Canal amid a Russian blockade of its key Black Sea ports.

"In the last four days, 16 ships have already passed through the Bystre mouth. We plan to maintain this pace," said Yurii Vaskov, Ukraine's deputy infrastructure minister, on Tuesday.

Access to the Danube and its small inland river ports became possible after Ukrainian forces recaptured Snake Island from Russian forces in June.

Vaskov added that Kyiv was negotiating with Romania and the European Commission to increase the number of ships crossing the canal and hoped that the congestion on the route would "be eliminated" within a week, clearing the way for Ukraine to increase its exports. monthly grain in 500,000 metric tons.

Ukraine's harvest becomes the new battlefield as fires blacken its farmland

More than 90 ships are waiting to enter Ukrainian ports through the Sulina channel of the Danube, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure.

Before the Russian invasion in February, about 80% of Ukraine's grain was exported from its Black Sea ports, according to the ministry.

Now, exports leave the country exclusively through Danube ports and road and rail checkpoints.

The capacity of the new routes is "currently insufficient to fully replace seaports," the ministry said.

In June, Ukraine exported some 2.5 million tons of goods, a far cry from the 8 million tons it expected to export, the ministry added.

Turkey will host talks with Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations on Wednesday on the export of grain shipments found in Ukrainian ports, according to the Turkish defense minister.

Ukrainian authorities claim that more than 20 million tons of grain remain stuck in Ukraine due to Moscow's blockade of Black Sea ports.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the successes of "modern artillery" donated by the West after his country's forces attacked another Russian ammunition depot on Tuesday.

"The occupiers have already felt very well what modern artillery is, and they will not have a safe rear in any part of our land, which they occupied," Zelensky said in his evening speech.

"They felt that the operations of our scouts to protect their Homeland are orders of magnitude stronger than any of their "special operations".

"Russian soldiers - and we know this from interceptions of their conversations - are frankly scared of our Armed Forces."

Zelensky's statements come after explosions rocked the city of Nova Kakhovka in the Ukrainian region of Kherson on Monday night.

A video posted on social media showed loud explosions and a huge fireball lighting up the night sky.

"In Nova Kakhovka minus a Russian ammunition depot. They brought, brought, stored, stored and now they have fireworks at night," Serhiy Khlan, a Ukrainian official who is a member of the Kherson regional council, said in a Facebook post.

Ukraine has in recent weeks been using US-donated HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems and other Western-made weaponry to attack Russian ammunition depots deep inside Moscow-controlled territory.
