Today, the China National Meteorological Center issued an orange alert for high temperatures as heat waves hit several provinces in the country.
Xinhua news agency quoted the center as saying that parts of "Shaanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Sichuan, Chongqing and Guizhou" are expected to witness temperatures of up to 39 degrees Celsius, and in some of them may exceed more than 40 degrees Celsius.
The center called for avoiding outdoor activities during periods of high temperatures and taking the necessary preventive measures.
In China, there is a four-level bad weather warning system, where red represents the most dangerous warning and less than orange, yellow and blue.
In other parts of the country, floods caused by rainstorms swept areas in northeastern China, where one person was killed and eight others are still missing from the floods that swept through Heilongjiang Province.
China earlier allocated 270 million yuan (40 million dollars) from the Central Natural Disaster Relief Funds to help local governments in flood control and drought relief work in a number of the country's provinces.
