Finally fast internet for Wörth

After a difficult start, the broadband initiative in Wörth is picking up speed.
The expansion is expected to cost 3.8 million euros.
The municipality has to take on 800,000 euros of its own contribution.
Wörth – good things come to those who wait: After a difficult start with delays, the further broadband initiative of the municipality of Wörth is now promisingly picking up speed, with which the last white spots should finally disappear and nationwide coverage should be guaranteed.
At the most recent municipal council meeting on Monday evening, administrative officer Maria Gaigl presented the project with a timetable, which the municipal council unanimously approved.
The broadband expansion is expected to cost around 3.8 million euros, with the community expecting 80 percent funding and having to bear a share of the costs of around 800,000 euros.
"After this expansion, we no longer have any unserviced areas," says Gaigl.
146 households, including 16 tradesmen and the Wörth school, should benefit from this.
The network could be commissioned on March 31, 2024.
"This is the fastest possible period that was offered," informed Gaigl.
The specialist explained the complicated procedure for the federal subsidy program, which, with market research, tendering, bidder talks, several decision-making rounds and talks with the subsidy provider, who had also changed during the process, required quite a bit of time.
Ultimately, out of three providers, one company remained that met one of the municipality's main criteria: the time component.
A “great emphasis” was placed on the implementation period.
With the expansion, fiber optics should be laid directly into the house.
At least 1 gigabit (GB) for private customers and 100 GB for business customers should ensure fast internet.
The next step is now to give the network operator the prospect of the order and then to issue it in a further step when the funding commitment is binding.
The municipality hopes to be able to award the bidder this October.
Among other things, areas that are not covered in Willgruber, Kirchötting, Wifling and in the direction of Wörth are to be developed with the further broadband initiative.
The lines would all be buried and nothing would be routed above ground.
