The mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo on Wednesday accused the prefect of police Didier Lallement of
"disengaging"
the police officers responsible for the security of the July 14 fireworks in the capital, a new episode in the strained relations between these two personalities.
In a letter to Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, Anne Hidalgo denounced an
“unprecedented and unconcerted disengagement”
of the police headquarters from the
“Perimeter of the Champ de Mars”,
which
“jeopardizes reception in the best security conditions for the 70,000 people"
expected on the site for the fireworks.
“State Responsibility”
"Again, the prefect of police is playing with the safety of Parisians and visitors to the capital by weakening at the last moment a joint city-police prefecture system that is nevertheless robust and proven"
, regrets Anne Hidalgo, who is calling for the
"support"
of the Minister of the Interior and deplores
"having to appeal to the responsibility of the State".
“The police prefecture is not disengaging”
, replied the PP on Twitter, recalling that 1,500 police and gendarmes were going to be mobilized in Paris for the July 14 festivities.
The institution explained coming
“in support”
“of the city agents responsible for filtering spectators on the Champs-de-Mars, to prevent any malicious or terrorist intrusion”.
"It is up to the city of Paris, organizer of the event, to ensure the management of access for spectators wishing to attend the fireworks
," she added.
