Dmitriy Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, considered that the European Union's recognition of the fairness of Russia's demands to ensure the transit of goods to the Kaliningrad region is a victory of rationality over barbaric hostility to Russia.
Russia Today quoted Medvedev as saying, "Brussels' recognition of the fairness of Russia's demands for transit to Kaliningrad is a rare case, especially when rationality defeats stupidity and barbaric anti-Russianism in Brussels."
For his part, Governor of the Kaliningrad Province Anton Alikhanov considered that Brussels' decision to allow the transit of goods by rail to Kaliningrad with the control of goods is the first step in solving the problem of goods transit, noting that a similar solution is required with regard to road transport.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the European Commission's decision on the transit of goods to Kaliningrad as "rational", stressing that Moscow would monitor how these steps were implemented.
