2022-07-13T06:50:20.562Z

In the ultra-Orthodox food chains, there has been a conditional price increase of only 4% • The differences can reach tens of shekels per purchase

Differences in price increases between general chains and ultra-Orthodox food chains:

A survey conducted by the Consumer Council found that in ultra-Orthodox food chains there was a 4% increase in the basket price compared to last year and compared to the price increase from the beginning of the year, compared to 6%.

It also shows that there has been an increase of about 1.5% in the ultra-Orthodox networks since the beginning of the year, ie since the beginning of January.

The survey shows that the price of the basket in the ultra-Orthodox chains is cheaper compared to the five non-ultra-Orthodox discount chains that were examined, with the exception of the Rami Levy chain, which was found to be 1% cheaper.

The cheapest chain found is the Welfare Gates chain with a basket of NIS 1,163.2.

It is followed by Osher Ad with a basket of NIS 1,169.8, followed by a chain of grace with a basket of NIS 1,207.3.

The most expensive basket is in the Good Market chain, which is an urban chain, with the difference between its basket and the cheapest basket standing at 19% and about NIS 220.

This basket was NIS 1,385.

This week, the ultra-Orthodox chains examined a basket of 102 most common and best-selling products.

Sterncast and Pricez data, which include food products, cleaning products and baby products, were examined in 14 ultra-Orthodox chains.

These are the chains: Shaarei Welfare, Osher Ad, Yesh Chesed, Shefa Birkat Hashem, Mehadrin Market Warehouses, cheap and big, in the neighborhood, Maayan 2000, Mehadrin Market, Shira Market, Bar Kol Tov, Netiv HaChesed, Shefa Birkat Hashem .

The test was performed on the basis of average prices of the chains on 7.7.2022, when the prices were generated through the Prices website.

Prices are network average and include promotions, excluding credit promotions.

Statistical support was provided by Dr. Or Katz of the Ashkelon Academic College.

In addition, the same basket was tested in 5 discount (non-Haredi) chains, which according to the findings of a survey conducted in December 2021 by Askria are the preferred chains for shopping among the Haredi public: Rami Levy, Market Warehouses, Victory, Shufersal Deal and Bitan Wines.

Where will you find the cheapest shopping cart?

The survey shows that the basket in the Rami Levy chain is about 1% cheaper than in the cheapest ultra-Orthodox chains: welfare and happiness rates up to NIS 10, ie the basket was NIS 1,154.1.

In second place are the market warehouses with a basket of NIS 1,233.9, followed by Victory with a basket of NIS 1,248.6, Shufersal Deal with a basket of NIS 1,276.6 and Beitan Wines with a basket of NIS 1,289.8.

The survey shows that the choice of the chain is very important, since the differences for the same product from the 14 ultra-Orthodox chains can reach up to NIS 16.

The Consumer Council stated: "It appears that in the ultra-Orthodox chains there was a more moderate increase in the basket price compared to last year and compared to the price increases since the beginning of the year, from the 6% increase found by the Consumer Council in all chains. "The ultra-Orthodox chains are cheaper than the market warehouses, which is the second non-ultra-Orthodox discount chain in the price list."
