The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court will today (Thursday) sentence Yaakov Litzman, former chairman of Torah Judaism and Minister of Health, as part of the plea agreement he signed last month in the Malka Leifer case, in which he admitted and was convicted of breach of trust.
As part of the settlement, it was agreed that Litzman would be sentenced to probation and a low fine of NIS 3,000.
Today the court will decide whether to accept the penalty component of the plea agreement.

The settlement was signed following the decision of former Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit in May 2021 to file an indictment against Litzman, who was then Deputy Health Minister. - who was accused in Australia of committing sexual offenses with her students - so that the State of Israel would not betray her.
In his request to the court to accept the plea agreement, the Jerusalem District Attorney, Adv. Danny Whitman, claimed that "in his role, the defendant took advantage of his position and turned to the district psychiatrist in an attempt to influence him to submit an opinion that Schleifer, who is accused of sexually assaulting her students, will not be extradited to Australia." "The defendant took responsibility for what he did. Taking responsibility for these acts at the defendant's level is valuable."
