The number of candidates vying to succeed British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was reduced to six on Wednesday July 13, with the elimination of Finance Minister Nadhim Zahawi and ex-Health Minister Jeremy Hunt, announced a party official.

After a first round of voting, reserved for Conservative MPs, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak came out on top with 88 votes, ahead of Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Penny Mordaunt with 67 votes, then Minister of Foreign Affairs Liz Truss with 50, according to the results announced by Graham Brady, head of the committee organizing the ballot.
