A heat wave is imminent in Germany: It will also be very hot in the Tölzer Land in the coming days.

Prof. Dr.

Hans Ulrich Kreider-Stempfle, Chief Physician for Internal Medicine I at the Asklepios City Clinic, gives tips on how to prepare for such weather conditions.

Bad Tölz – Many people will be drawn to the lakes or the swimming pool these days.

But high temperatures are not harmless for the body.

"Especially older people and people with heart failure or coronary heart disease have to be careful in the heat," explains Dr.

Hans Ulrich Kreider-Stempfle.

Because: “At high temperatures, the heart has to pump more blood through the body.

Therefore, the heat is particularly difficult for patients with a reduced pumping function of the heart.” The doctor recommends that you avoid any exertion and stay mostly in cool rooms or in the shade.

How do you recognize heat stroke?

If you are not careful on hot days, you risk heat stroke.

"This occurs when the body is unable to regulate its temperature properly after a long stay in a warm environment, often accompanied by physical exertion," says the doctor.

Specifically, heat stroke is "overheating of the body to over 40 degrees Celsius, which cannot be adequately compensated for by sweating alone," explains the chief physician.

"As a result, the cardiovascular system is disturbed." Typical symptoms are headaches, nausea with vomiting, neck pain and fever of over 40 degrees.

In addition, there is crimson, hot and dry skin.

In addition, dizziness or disturbances of consciousness may occur.

“Infants and young children, the elderly, the chronically ill and those not used to heat,

are particularly at risk of heat stroke,” explains Kreider-Stempfle.

Nevertheless, even young and healthy people are not immune.

They too can get heat stroke “if they exert themselves physically in high temperatures and high humidity at the same time”, for example by doing intensive sports.

If you suspect heat stroke, dial 112 immediately.

"This is a medical emergency.

The patient should be treated immediately in intensive care," says Kreider-Stempfle.

You can give the victim something to drink until the emergency doctor arrives, provided he is able to do so.

It is also important to bring him into a cool, shady environment, preferably with his legs elevated and his head slightly elevated.

Do not leave those affected alone

"The most important thing is to lower the body temperature," says the doctor.

This works with cold compresses on the neck, forehead, legs and arms.

You should also fan the air.

"Cold water baths and ice rubbing, on the other hand, should be avoided, as they can increase body temperature." In addition, those affected should never be left alone because they can lose consciousness.

To prevent things from getting that far, Kreider-Stempfle has the following tips that you should heed on hot summer days:

o Wear airy clothing made of cotton, linen or silk
