The head of the Military and Civil Administration of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Palitsky, announced that a popular referendum on joining Russia is scheduled for the first third of next September.
"By a decision of the military and civil administration of the Zaporozhye region, a referendum will be organized at the beginning of next autumn, and no precise date has been set, but it is likely that it will take place in the first third of September, if the necessary capabilities are available," TASS news agency quoted Palitsky as saying.
He added that the referendum will take place in accordance with the standards and norms that exist in the world, explaining that the residents of the province want Russia to remain in the region and fear the return of the horror they witnessed over the past eight years from the Ukrainian Nazis.
The deputy head of the civil and military administration in the Kherson region Kirill Strimosov announced earlier that preparations had begun in the region for a popular referendum on joining Russia.
