The Nicaraguan National Assembly approved this Thursday a new decree for the cancellation of legal entities of another 100 non-profit civil organizations.

On Wednesday, it had canceled the same number of associations that, according to the parliamentarians, failed to comply with the legislation that regulates them.

The legislative decree was approved with 75 votes in favor of the caucus of the ruling Sandinista National Liberation Front, no votes against, and with the abstention of 16 parliamentarians from small parties.

With these cancellations, there are already 1,058 organizations declared illegal since December 2018. Only during 2022, 859 organizations went through the same situation, according to the count by CNN and the Efe agency.

Before the approval of the decree, parliamentary directors stated that Franya Urey - director of the Registry and Control of Non-Profit Institutions - sent the president of the National Assembly a report that expresses the non-compliance by the sanctioned organizations of their functions. , as established by the NGO regulatory law, the foreign agents law and the anti-money laundering and terrorist financing law.

According to the report of the Interior, these organisms did not present detailed financial reports according to fiscal periods with income, expenses;

The closed agencies, which are focused on the performance of their institutions' closure reports, preferred not to comment.

The Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) pointed out in a statement on June 1 that the massive cancellation of civil organizations was due to the fact that the government "intends to dismantle Nicaraguan society and cause the destruction of the social fabric with the aim of concentrating and strengthen his dictatorship.
