The PSOE has incorporated

in extremis

, this Wednesday, an amendment to its proposal to reform the organic law of the Judiciary, on the eve of its vote in the plenary session of Congress this Wednesday.

That amendment sets a three-month deadline for the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) to appoint the two magistrates of the Constitutional Court that correspond to it.

This period of time would run from the moment in which the places have become vacant.

Four of the 12 components of the Constitutional Court should have been replaced on June 13, so, with the new legal change, the new magistrates should be appointed before September 13, according to socialist sources in advance to EL PAÍS.

The express reform of the organic law of the Judiciary that the PSOE urgently and unilaterally promoted last Friday, June 24, intends to return to the CGPJ, even though its mandate has expired, the ability to appoint the two magistrates that correspond to it in the Constitutional Court, maintaining, however, the prohibition of making appointments in other judicial instances such as the Supreme Court.

That proposal changed only one article, 599.1.1ª of the Organic Law of the Judiciary, with the aim of facilitating the immediate renewal of the Constitutional Court, achieving that the majority of its magistrates become progressive sector against the current conservative bloc.

The Socialists justified this haste by the "impossibility" of closing a pact with the PP, now led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo,

The PSOE, United We Can and several of their usual partners in Parliament, such as ERC, PNV, EH Bildu and Más País, add more than enough votes to carry out this reform, which is voted on this Thursday after the resolutions with which the XXVI State of the Nation Debate.

PP, Vox and Ciudadanos have already advanced that they will vote against.

The PP even presented this Monday an alternative proposal for different legal changes to depoliticize the country's judicial institutions on the condition that the PSOE paralyze this ongoing legal reform, which will be voted on Thursday.

The PSOE ruled out that possibility.

The Council of the Judiciary itself already rejected this Monday for the minimum the Government's plan to renew the Constitutional.

Its president, Carlos Lesmes, favored with his vote the approval of the reaction of the most conservative sector of the body of judges, contrary to the reform of the PSOE to unblock the interim situation in which some of the members of the Constitutional Court find themselves. Several appeals against very symbolic and relevant laws of the current Coalition Executive.

Faith of errors

In a previous version of this article, it appeared due to "a typographical error in the amendment" that another article of the Organic Law of the Judiciary was modified to facilitate the renewal of the Constitutional Law.
