The Gröbenbach in Puchheim-Ort has dried up in places.

Many fish have died.

However, local residents were able to bring some to safety.

Puchheim – From the point of view of the responsible water management office in Munich, the very low groundwater level is responsible for the dry stream.

The wet from the ground normally feeds the stream, explains the head of the authority, Christian Leeb, when asked.

Often as heavy rain

The amounts of precipitation in the recent past would differ only slightly from the long-term average.

"However, they often fall as heavy rain, which then often drains quickly into the water bodies and contributes little to the formation of groundwater," says Leeb.

A river master from the office is currently getting an idea of the situation on site.

This also checks whether other streams are affected by such low water levels.

"However, there are almost no options for action if there is no inflow," says Leeb.

FFB newsletter.)

The Gröbenbach has had very little water for several weeks.

This led, among other things, to the wells in the village no longer spewing water.

They are operated by a pump, which in turn is driven by the Gröbenbach.

climate change?

To what extent the low groundwater level and the dry Gröbenbach are due to climate change is difficult to say.

However, the development of the weather and the climate forecasts for the coming years suggest that such events will not remain isolated cases.

When it comes to groundwater, you have to keep an eye on winter in particular.

The snowmelt is an important contribution to the formation of groundwater.

"If there is no snow or if there is less snow in winter, the groundwater formation also decreases in winter." And as is well known, the white splendor was in short supply this year.
