A man was stabbed to death "
obviously during a brawl
" on the night of Thursday to Friday July 15 in downtown Metz, announced the LR mayor of the Moselle prefecture, François Grosdidier.

The judicial inquiry will shed light on the circumstances and, I hope, will identify and punish the attacker or attackers
," added the city councilor in a post on his Facebook page.
Contacted by AFP, the Metz prosecutor's office could not be reached immediately.
“Two men armed with at least one knife”
According to
Le Républicain Lorrain
, the victim, a 22-year-old man, was with "
a group of friends when they were attacked by two men armed with at least one knife
" around 1:30 a.m., on the sidelines of the festivities of the July 14th.
A witness then warned the emergency services, seeing the young man unconscious: transported to the hospital, he died during the night, according to the regional daily.

Presenting his condolences to the family and welcoming the action of the police and emergency services, François Grosdidier also reiterated his "
willingness
" to "
strengthen the security policy in Metz: increase in the number of municipal police, from video projection to all neighborhoods, setting up of islanders, 24-hour patrols
".
