The government of the president of the United States, Joe Biden, extended the declaration of a public health emergency due to covid-19 for three more months.

The measure, in force since January 2020, occurs while the BA.5 omicron subvariant continues to cause an increase in cases.

The CDC predicts that hospitalizations will increase in the coming weeks.
