A Moreno Valley, California woman posed as a nurse and entered a hospital room where she tried to take a newborn baby. 

The suspect, Jesenea Miron, 23, entered Riverside University Medical Center posing as a newly hired nurse and gained access to the medical unit where there were newborn babies, according to a statement released Thursday by the Sheriff's Department. Riverside County.

Miron was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on Friday on kidnapping charges and is currently

being held on $1 million bail.

“The woman entered a patient's room and identified herself as a nurse.

Hospital staff alerted security about a person posing as a nurse in the facility around 10:30 am.

But, before she could be stopped, she fled the scene.

Investigators served a search warrant at the 11000 block of Weber Street in Moreno Valley, where she was found and arrested, agents said.

"Additional items of evidentiary value" were found at the residence, according to agents, who did not provide details about the items.

Hospital CEO Jennifer Cruikshank said the facility has multiple levels of security to protect patients and staff, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The hospital is working with the Sheriff's Department to investigate how Miron gained access to the patient's room and interacted with the family, Cruikshank added.
