US President Joe Biden confronted Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman yesterday (Friday) and said the heir was responsible for the murder of Washington Post journalist in the country, Jamal Hashukaji.

In Biden's statement on the call he said the heir denied any connection to the murder and claimed he was not personally responsible for it, while Biden replied that he thought he was indeed responsible.

"Regarding Hashukaji's assassination, I brought it up at the beginning of the meeting, and clarified what I thought about it at the time and what I think about it now," Biden told reporters, adding, "I was honest and straightforward in discussing it. I clarified my opinion. I said very directly. "The American president's silence on human rights issues is inconsistent with who we are and who I am."

Biden summed up the talks with the Saudi Arabian leadership as a "good series of meetings", with significant progress on security and economic issues, but added that human rights are also a key issue.

Hashukaji, was murdered in 2018, while entering the state consulate in Istanbul for the purpose of completing his divorce proceedings, after which his body was dismembered.

He was a resident of the United States and wrote critical columns against Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman in the Washington Post.

U.S. intelligence claimed in a report released about a year ago that the regent had approved the operation with the aim of capturing or killing Hashukaqi, who was a Saudi ally who had become a critic.

Also the CIA, other Western intelligence services and the US Congress said the operation could not have been launched without his knowledge.
