During the operation, the police issued a total of 32 fixed penalty notices and towed 2 illegal vehicles that caused serious obstruction and did not display the driving license and license plate.
The police emphasized that according to the "Road Traffic (Registration and Licensing of Vehicles) Regulations, Chapter 374E", the owner of the vehicle must display, light up or install the vehicle registration mark and display a valid vehicle license plate, otherwise it will violate the law, and at least be liable to be arrested. The fixed penalty is HK$320, and there is a chance to go to court.
Those convicted for the first time can be fined HK$2,000 and imprisoned for 3 months, while repeat offenders can be fined HK$5,000 and imprisoned for 6 months.
If the owner of the towed vehicle wants to claim the vehicle, he or she will need to pay additional towing fee and storage fee at the vehicle detention center.
Sham Shui Po Police District emphasized that it will continue to crack down on such illegal acts, and called on the public not to violate the law. It also pointed out that although the vehicle does not display the driving license and license plate, the police can still check the identity of the vehicle owner through the vehicle's own chassis number, and can also take immediate towing action.
