Europe in flames: A huge heat wave is sweeping the west of the continent and in Spain more than 360 deaths have been recorded due to the effects of the hot weather.
In Portugal a record temperature of 47 degrees was measured and in the UK records of close to 40 were recorded.
In addition, the huge heat wave ignited a series of unprecedented forest fires across the Mediterranean basin.
In France, 12,000 people were evacuated from their homes when a wave of fires consumed pine forests south of the city of Bordeaux in the southwest of the country.
3,000 firefighters were recruited from all over France to fight the flames, hired 10,000 acres of natural woodland, villages and towns in the Gironde region.
"Everything disappeared in seconds. The fire was huge and we did not understand which direction it was coming from," Manon Jacquard, 27, who lives in the Gironde region, told the British Broadcasting Authority.
She is now staying in a public shelter for the fire refugees, waiting until it is safe to return home.
In Portugal, a pilot of a firefighting plane was killed in a series of forest fires in the west of the country after temperatures reached a peak of 47 degrees and made the forests particularly dry.
Fires also broke out near the city of Porto, in the north of the country where 300,000 dunams of woodland and agricultural land were burned.
This is the worst fire in the country since 2017.
Other parts of the Mediterranean were also affected by the tremendous heat.
In Italy, the government has declared a state of emergency in the Po Valley, which is suffering from a severe drought - the longest river in the country has become a thin stream in some places.

In Greece, firefighters are dealing with fires in the Paris area, about 50 km southeast of Athens, and near Rethymno, on the northern coast of Crete. Seven villages were evacuated near the city and thousands of their residents were transferred to temporary shelters across the area.
In northern Morocco, several villages were forced to evacuate during fires that swept the provinces of Laraq, Ouazan, Taza and Tetouan.
One village was completely destroyed in the area of Qassar al-Kabir and at least one person died in the fire.
