New blow to the

Porta Nuova district in Palermo

, the historic Cosa Nostra clan.

After just ten days, the carabinieri followed up on the Vento operation which led to the arrest of 18 presumed members of the mafia family.

During the night, the military carried out an order signed by the investigating judge of Palermo against 12 other alleged affiliates.

The investigations were coordinated by the DDA and averted new violence and tensions such as the attempt to punish those responsible for the murder of

Emanuele Burgio,

took place in Palermo on May 31, 2021. The 12 arrested, four in prison and eight under house arrest, are accused in various ways of mafia-type association, association aimed at drug trafficking, cultivation and drug dealing, private violence and personal injury aggravated by the method and the mafia purposes.

The Vento 2 operation is the continuation of the one made on 6 July with the execution of 18 stops by the DDA.

An operation triggered a few days after the murder of Giuseppe Incontrera, which took place last June 30 in Palermo, considered one of the leaders of the district that held the families' cash.

Salvatore Fernandez is investigated and confessed for that crime, who was constituted after he was already hunted by the carabinieri.

The investigation revealed that there were clear signs of a possible escalation;

for this reason it was decided to anticipate the blitz.

Also on this second tranche, the Palermo Investigative Unit collected further elements about a resurgence of violence connected with some tensions in the Porta Nuova district.

Circumstances that triggered the measures of the investigating judge requested by the prosecutor and blocked, among other things, the release of Filippo Burgio, detained for another cause, who was to return to freedom just today.

According to the investigators, he would have expressed his desire to punish those responsible for the killing of his son Emanuele, which took place on May 31, 2021 in Palermo in the popular district of Vucciria.

Also for this murder there are already three suspects.
