United Nations statistics indicate that high unemployment rates among young people is one of the biggest problems facing various countries of the world, indicating that there are currently 73 million unemployed young men and women worldwide.

In celebration of the strategic importance of providing young people with the skills needed for employment, access to decent work and entrepreneurship, the United Nations General Assembly has declared 15 July as International Youth Skills Day since 2014.

In Syria, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor translated attention to the youth category and supported their skills by reopening the Career Guidance and Entrepreneurship Center in Damascus in 2018, so that the center’s work later developed into vocational training programs according to the needs of the labor market. Youth Empowerment Centers.

In a statement to SANA, Director of the Labor Market Observatory at the Ministry, Rola Al-Agbar, indicated that youth empowerment centers provide advisory and guidance services to new graduates who wish to enter the labor market, and provide them with the required skills through specialized training courses for graduates of universities and institutes or professionals and craftsmen.

Al-Aghbar explained that the youth empowerment project implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program provides career development services, supports young people's skills, introduces them to the mechanism of writing a CV and conducting a job interview to facilitate their access to the labor market, and also provides networking between job seekers and employers in various sectors.

Al-Aghbar pointed out that the youth empowerment centers also provide entrepreneurship support services for emerging projects that include a feasibility study for the project and the stages of its implementation and evaluation, stressing that the centers will continue to implement various programs to support young people and develop their skills with work commensurate with the market need.

Civil societies implement qualitative programs to raise the capabilities of young people and empower them. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Human Resources Association, Dr. Mounir Abbas, indicated that last year the association carried out 210 professional and academic training workshops, benefiting 6,300 young men and women.

Abbas revealed that preparations are underway for an awareness workshop for the successful high school graduates in its various branches to guide them and introduce them to the university specializations that suit their ambitions and meet the needs of the labor market.
