The pay TV broadcaster Sky was the victim of a power failure in Unterföhring on Thursday evening.
The result: black televisions for all customers in prime time.
Unterföhring – In the evening, the screens turned black, sometimes with colorful stripes.
A power failure in Unterföhring completely paralyzed all Sky channels on Thursday evening.
The power outage hit Sky of all times during the broadcasting time with the most viewers, the so-called prime time.
Between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., the broadcaster had to stop broadcasting.
Sky itself wrote shortly thereafter in a statement:
Power failure near Munich: Sky no longer broadcasts for hours
"Due to a power failure, the transmission of some Sky channels is currently disrupted or has failed completely. Therefore, instead of the program, you only receive a black screen or you may see a still image or a transmission break (colorful, striped image)."
Several departments are urgently working on a solution, Sky said.
"We sincerely apologize for the circumstances and hope that the error can be rectified as soon as possible." Apparently, Sky does not have its own emergency generator, like the public broadcaster BR, for example.
It was only around 9 p.m. that the all-clear could be given again.
According to the media
magazine dwdl.de
, not only Sky was affected by the disruption.
Telekom's Magenta TV also failed for a short time.
The power outage in Unterföhring apparently only affected a small area in the immediate vicinity of the Sky headquarters on Medienallee.
The TV stations ProSieben and Sat.1, which are also based in Unterfoehring, were not affected.
Meanwhile, the background to the power outage remains somewhat ominous.
A spokesman for the responsible Bayernwerk says when asked: "There was no disruption in the network." A thunderstorm may have triggered a slight fluctuation in the network.
Technical equipment can react sensitively to such fluctuations and fail.
