The crash at the checkpoint near Raanana tonight (Sunday), which ended with the death of policeman Barak Meshulam, is not the first and probably not the last.
In the last two months alone, there have been nine incidents at police checkpoints, in which Meshulam and police volunteer Amichai Carmeli were killed.
Following the incident, Commissioner Kobi Shabtai sharpened the opening fire regulations, emphasizing that a police officer may open fire on anyone who endangers his life while attempting to break through a police checkpoint. There are IDF soldiers helping to stop the incident.
"There are two aspects here, one is the number of fighters at the checkpoint in the territories in front of a police checkpoint on Israeli roads," explained the former head of the traffic department at the police, retired Yaron Barry.
"Also their skill, how many times a policeman trains a year compared to a hint soldier - no more than four to five days a year."

"The police must draw conclusions and draw lessons and probably change the shape of the checkpoint in order to better protect the police."
Barry continued.
He said, "There is of course a constant conflict and tension between wanting to carry out the mission and not getting into huge traffic jams. We need to recalculate a route and see if we set up the checkpoints in a way that protects the police. Unfortunately, given these results probably not."
Barry also addressed allegations of ambiguity in opening fire procedures.
According to him, the problem is not the skill of the police, and suggested a solution.
"There are other ways of delaying vehicles that do not reach 150 km / h at 4:00 in the morning.
For example, to place the spikes half a kilometer from the checkpoint and seven 'slaloms' inside.
If the driver rages, the vehicle punctures even before it reaches the police. "
