Singapore's Ministry of Health said on July 16 that as of the 14th, Singapore had added two new cases of imported cases of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) variant strain Omicron (Omicron) subtype BA.2.75.
BA.2.75 is nicknamed Centaurus (Centaurus), but this is not the official name.
Singapore's Ministry of Health said that two patients infected with BA.2.75 who had recently travelled to India had self-isolated immediately after testing positive for the new coronavirus.
They have now fully recovered.
BA.2.75 was first seen in India in early May, and cases have been reported in nearly 10 countries since then, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Canada.
Japan also confirmed BA.2.75 confirmed cases in Kobe City for the first time on the 12th.
The patient is a woman in her 40s.
She sought medical attention on June 24 with fever and other symptoms, and was later diagnosed.
Gene sequencing confirmed that the virus strain she infected was BA.2.75 of the BA.2 system.
She did not leave the country in the 14 days before the onset of symptoms, nor did she have contact with people who had traveled abroad, so the possibility of community transmission cannot be ruled out.
South Korea confirmed its first local case on the 14th.
The patient is a man in his 60s from Incheon City. He became ill on July 8 and was diagnosed on the 11th. He is currently receiving treatment at home.
Following genetic sequencing by the authorities, it was confirmed that he was infected with BA.2.75.
After investigation by the epidemic prevention department, it was found that the man had no travel history, because it was inferred that the variant strain may have been transmitted in the community.
