The people of Grafing celebrated the 50th birthday of their outdoor pool with a great program for young and old.

Some brave ones threw themselves into the depths

Grafing

- Sometimes the Grafinger city councilors have the courage to take the big leap, and sometimes it's the women among them who have the most courage.

At least that's how it was at the celebrity jumping at the weekend on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the outdoor pool.

One even jumped into the water from a five-meter board in a white and blue dirndl.

The city councilors also needed courage again and again when renovating the pool, which served as a training facility for Olympic teams in 1972.

Sometimes renovating properly is financially painful, but still better than botching it up.

Mayor Bauer: Stainless steel was a bargain

At the opening of the anniversary celebrations, Grafing's mayor, Christian Bauer, recalled that the conversion to stainless steel pools in 2008 had cost around 3.5 million euros.

But because stainless steel prices have now risen exorbitantly, from today's perspective it was "actually a bargain" back then, says Bauer.

The celebrity jumping was followed and applauded by numerous spectators.

"It's so nice here, I've rediscovered swimming for myself," said Dorothee Brandmair, who is one of the loyal permanent swimmers at the outdoor pool, for which the city of Grafing has to absorb considerable deficits every year.

But it is the only municipality in the district that wants to afford such a leisure facility, also because it is associated with a unique selling point.

The pool is also a community project.

Four women, as Angela Rothmoser recalled in an interview with EZ, published a baking book, the proceeds of which went to a wide slide for children in the non-swimmer area.

The Grafinger outdoor pool is half a century old, but it shows no signs of age, said Bauer.

In preparation for his short speech, the mayor wanted to give the title “CO2-free” after the bath.

The city's climate manager, Christina Spiegel, had something against it.

Biogas and the sun heat the water in the pool

Because the water is heated with gas from the nearby biogas plant and with the support of solar energy and green electricity, "but the corn has to be transported with tractors," Bauer admitted.

In view of the tense gas supply situation, no visitor need have a guilty conscience when doing laps in the well-tempered pool.

In addition, the water is not taken from the municipal drinking water supply because there is a productive well in the immediate vicinity in Forellenstraße, which serves the annual consumption of 20,000 liters.

The ecological footprint of the Grafinger outdoor pool is therefore rather manageable in view of the influx of visitors.

Although in the past there were considerations of creating a natural pool and taking the water from the Wieshamer Bach, this failed due to the insufficient space available.

Bauer thanked Elisabeth Gschwendtner and Vroni Kainz from the administration, who had organized the festival in honor of the Grafinger baths.

In addition to sporting events and a diving introductory course from the Delphin club in Kirchseeon, the much-anticipated celebrity jumping event was also part of the offer.

For every meter jumped, Rewe boss Martin Gruber sponsored ten euros for the redesign of the playground at the primary school in Grafing.

Bauer and the Grafinger member of parliament Thomas Huber did not want to aim so high and were content with jumps from the "three".

For this, CSU city councilor Elli Huber climbed up onto the five-meter platform and boldly hopped down in a dirndl.

There was a big round of applause for that.

3. Mayor Regina Offenwanger received a lot of applause for a "pike" from the "five" and also treasurer Veronika Kainz left no money for the playground, but bravely jumped off the five-meter board.

Members of the town band performed a stunt in lederhosen from the same height.

Sandra Friesinger finally completed the last jump.

As a lifeguard, it was like a home game for her.
