- Auxiliary Bishop Wolfgang Bischof, for whom the ride in Dietramszell on Sunday was a premiere, and Dean Thomas Neuberger donated the blessing to the 40 carriages and wagons as well as the 40 riders.

In the festive service beforehand, Bishop Bishop pointed out that "the joint commitment of Christians and the Church for the common good should also include looking at the welfare of animals as part of creation." The rides dedicated to St. Leonhard would remind us that " that animals were and are important to our lives - not only in agriculture - and that they deserve our appreciation".

The horses started to move.

The men took off their hats and the women crossed themselves as they passed the two clergymen.

Among the guests were Alexander Radwan, Member of the Bundestag, Martin Bachhuber and Florian Streibl, Members of the Landtag, and District Administrator Josef Niedermaier.

Also present were two representatives of the Munich cavalry squadron, who led the procession.

This year there was something new about the church that caused a brief moment of confusion.

"Because so many people have registered, we decided more or less spontaneously to share the ride around St. Leonhard," explained Lehards-Lader Hans Kanzler.

As he watched the chariots and riders of the first "crew" that just circumnavigated the sanctuary for the second time, he also said: "I think we will have to enlarge the ring."

After the first almost 35 carriages and riders had circled St. Leonhard three times, the second train followed.

However, they were in the blind spot of the clergy, which had therefore assumed the end of the tour.

Neither the Auxiliary Bishop Bishop nor Dean Neuberger found coachmen and riders.

The astonishment was great.

The two clergymen were hurriedly brought back from the church.

Auxiliary Bishop Bischof took it with humor: "Here we go again," he said casually and climbed back onto the podium to the applause of the onlookers.

"I didn't know that you have two Lehards here."
