You should not throw away expired yeast, everyone has sugar at home.

Both home remedies are simple fertilizers for heavy consumers such as tomatoes and roses.

Munich – egg shells, banana peels, coffee grounds – the list of natural home remedies that are used as fertilizers in the garden is even longer.

Big favorites are yeast and sugar - each containing many plant-boosting micronutrients.

In combination, they are a dream team for the fertilization of plants that consume heavily, such as tomatoes and other types of vegetables, but also pot and house plants.

The yeast fertilizer is easy to make yourself.

Baker's yeast and sugar are not direct fertilizers that stimulate plants to grow and bloom due to their high content of minerals such as nitrogen or potassium, but they fertilize indirectly.

This means that the organisms in the soil are so well nourished that their increased activity strengthens tomatoes and other vegetables:

Protein, minerals, trace elements and, last but not least, the yeast fungi in the yeast and carbohydrates in the sugar "feed" the soil organisms, which in turn open up nutrients such as nitrogen in the soil and thus make them more available for tomatoes and their roots.

The sugar also serves as food for yeast fungi, other microorganisms and earthworms, which can then unfold their full potential.

Yeast fertilizer for tomatoes is easy to make

The yeast fertilizer is easy to make: For the very simple variant without sugar, stir a cube of fresh yeast or a packet of dry yeast into ten liters of lukewarm water until the yeast has dissolved.

Leave the mixture to rest for an hour, pour it into a watering can and water the tomatoes with it every two to three weeks, always stirring beforehand.

For the second variant, add two tablespoons of sugar to the yeast solution.

Whether vegetables, houseplants or potted plants, other plants also appreciate yeast fertilization:

  • cucumbers

  • potatoes

  • zucchini

  • strawberries

  • lemon Tree

  • geraniums

  • roses

  • petunias

  • orchids

The application of the yeast fertilizer only makes sense in the warm season, since only then do the yeast fungi become active.

Yeast and sugar alone could not provide the full fertilizer performance to provide the plants with all the nutrients they need, so they should only be used in alternation or as a supplement to classic fertilizers such as horn shavings or compost.

By the way, there is another household remedy from the kitchen that you can use to make the tomatoes particularly aromatic: tomatoes get more flavor with baking powder.
