Sky phenomenon "Supermoon" over Germany - Spectacle can also be seen in Bavaria today

The so-called super moon can be seen over Germany in July, it is also the closest to the earth and therefore the largest full moon this year.

Bockmond or Heumond over Germany: July 13 is the day
In Germany, the full moon in July is traditionally called Heumond.
Since the hay harvest begins in July, the name simply describes the circumstance that shapes people's lives the most, or has shaped them.
Like many aspects of astronomy, humans could see the cycles before they could understand them.
This year, the Heumond will unfold its full splendor on July 13th.
North American Native American Algonquin tribes, on the other hand, refer to the July full moon as "Buck Moon".
The name derives from their observation of the local deer.
In the forests of the region numerous deer cavort, whose males grow new antlers every year in midsummer.
Second supermoon expected within a few weeks
With a full moon, the second so-called super moon is expected this Wednesday within a few weeks.
"It is the closest full moon to earth this year," as the chairman of the Association of Star Friends in Germany, Sven Melchert, explained at the request of the German Press Agency.
When it rises on the horizon for the people in Germany, however, it is already a little further away from this point.
At moonrise, Earth's satellite is 357,517 kilometers away from Earth.

The so-called super moon occurs when the earth companion comes particularly close to our planet in its elliptical orbit and the moon is full at the same time.
The spectacle can be admired when there are no clouds obscuring the view, with a view to the south.
In summer, the moon rises in the southeast in the evening and sets in the southwest in the morning.
According to the Sternfreunde, it rises above the horizon in Munich at 9:36 p.m., in Hamburg at 10:17 p.m., in Berlin at 9:56 p.m. and in Cologne at 10:12 p.m.
The moon appears particularly large directly after rising and shortly before setting.
According to the German Weather Service in Offenbach, there may be a chance nationwide to admire this moon that night.
In the north and in the middle there is changing but no dense cloud cover.
In the south it is partly clear.
"I'm not ruling out a chance anywhere," said one meteorologist.
Heumond or Bockmond?
The two names denote the same celestial phenomenon.
The July full moon is traditionally referred to as the hay moon, as this is when the hay harvest takes place.
Also "Heute" in southern Germany.
The Algonquin Native American group refer to the July full moon as the "Buck Moon" because it is the time in midsummer that male deer grow new antlers.
This year the Heumon/Bockmoon falls on July 13th.

Different celestial phenomena have different names depending on culture, region, and language.
After the two names described, the July full moon also has the following pseudonyms: sun moon, Würz moon, bear moon, sun moon, thunder moon.
