With a local action alliance, several Moosburg organizations want to advance the "Radentscheid Bayern".

Because they see a lot of potential in their city.

Moosburg

– The goal of the “Radentscheid Bayern” is clearly defined: Since June, signatures have been collected for a referendum that aims for a bicycle law that is intended to oblige the state government and local authorities to implement environmentally friendly mobility in practice.

At least 25,000 signatures of eligible voters are required.

The Radentscheid is an initiative of the ADFC, VCD and Bund Naturschutz and is supported by the Greens, SPD, ÖDP, Linke, VOLT and the numerous Bavarian Radentscheids.

Local backing is now also coming from Moosburg: A separate action alliance was founded there, in which representatives of the Greens, Fresh and SPD can be found.

Desired increase “illusory in just three years”

"The Radentscheid Bayern goes back indirectly to the Bavarian cycling program from 2017, which aims to double cycling by 2025," explains Michael Stanglmaier, Moosburg's 3rd mayor, Green City Councilor and spokesman for the ADFC district association in Freising.

"But from 2017 to 2022, cycling only increased by one percent, and the targeted increase of a further eight in just three years is illusory."

According to Stanglmaier, one of the reasons for this is that the necessary laws for implementation were missing.

All attempts for a bicycle law have so far failed due to resistance from the state government and from the CSU and free voters.

With the help of the cycling decision, the aim is to increase the proportion of cycling to at least 25 percent by 2030 - "as an important contribution to climate protection and to the urgently needed reduction in our dependence on fossil fuels".

Stanglmaier is convinced: "This goal is achievable." In the city there is "a huge potential for modal shift".

According to Klaus Gmeinwieser, local spokesman for the Greens, the cycling decision is also aimed at "a safe and comfortable network of cycle paths and a better infrastructure".

This is one of the most important prerequisites for people to switch to cycling.

“Moosburg has already taken the first important measures with the cycle streets and zones.

But there is still a lot to do here." For SPD local leader Gunnar Marcus it is clear: "The promotion of the environmental association aimed at with the Radentscheid - i.e. walking and cycling, rail, public transport - is an important contribution to the mobility turnaround, especially in rural areas Space.” The good integration of the various modes of transport is particularly important there.

"This makes it possible to significantly reduce dependency on one's own car."

The Senior Citizens' Advisory Board also supports the referendum

According to Fresh City Councilor Julian Grübl, it is “time in Bavaria to finally create more express cycle lanes”.

Other federal states are significantly further.

It is crucial that the Free State takes over planning, construction and maintenance so that these can be implemented quickly.

"Putting it on the municipalities does not lead to the goal." According to Grübl, express cycle lanes are an important contribution "to shifting commuter traffic in particular to bicycles".
