With the participation of 72 teams from different governorates, the competitions for the first phase of the National School Debating Championship, which is held by the Excellence and Creativity Authority for secondary school students, started today and will continue until the twenty-second of this month.

The participating teams are divided into two geographical gatherings, the first in Damascus within the schools of the sons of the martyrs in Damascus, and 159 high school students, representing 32 teams who qualified from the governorates of Damascus and its countryside, Quneitra, Sweida and Homs, participate in it. Among them, in a league manner, where the team meets with all the teams of its group.

As for the second gathering in Lattakia, whose competitions are taking place within the National Center for the Distinguished, 197 male and female students representing 40 teams who qualified from the governorates of Lattakia, Tartous, Hama and Aleppo participate. With all his teams.

The first team from each group qualifies for the final stage competitions to be held during the period between the 24th and 31st of next August, in addition to the two best teams from each group who achieved the highest marks within the second place in their groups.

SANA accompanied the competitions and monitored the atmosphere, where the Secretary of the Scientific Committee for Debates in the Excellence and Creativity Authority, Alaa Ayoub, pointed out that the debates are a national project whose goal is to spread the culture of dialogue based on convergence of thought among the young generation and to establish a culture of accepting the other opinion and providing it with the tools to express its opinions based on knowledge, critical thinking and skills. Higher cognitive.

The trainer, Muhammad Al-Zahrawi from Homs Governorate, indicated that the students are trained on the method of effective dialogue in front of the public, and they learn the arts of persuasion, presentation and analytical thinking supported by scientific arguments.

From the judging team, Marah Haider indicated that the judging process takes place on three levels: “style, content, and strategy,” considering that the debates are a competition that gives students new skills and knowledge in addition to polishing their personality on the social level by forming friendships with their peers of the same age group and from different governorates.

In turn, the students expressed their happiness to participate in the championship competitions, including the student Suleiman Al-Hussein from the Al-Basel Secondary School for Outstanding Students in Jaramana, who considered it a beautiful and enjoyable experience that gives the student the opportunity to express his opinion logically and gain new perspectives.

Student Diana Al-Qarwani from Al-Jalaa High School team in Homs believed that participating in the tournament gives confidence to express opinions on various topics, whether political or social, as well as accepting the opinions of others. See a lot of information.

Two teams compete in each debate, one of whom supports the topic under discussion and the other denies the same topic regardless of the personal opinion of the contestants. Four judges debate.
