Munich - The ADAC is expecting one of the busiest weekends of the holiday season: From Friday it's off to the south - or off to the north.
Families in Germany start their vacation - and clog the streets.
From Friday, all federal states except Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg will be on vacation.
The logical consequence: travel will continue to increase - and that with sweltering temperatures in southern Europe.
The traffic club said on Monday.
Start of vacation and traffic jams in numerous federal states of Germany and parts of the Netherlands
The holidays begin in these federal states and neighboring countries:
Hesse
Rhineland-Palatinate
Saarland
parts of the Netherlands
The second wave of travel is expected for travelers from:
Bremen
Lower Saxony
Saxony
Saxony-Anhalt
Thuringia
other parts of the Netherlands
In addition, there is now a risk of traffic jams on the return routes - because the first holidaymakers are already on their way home.

The Bavarian autobahns are tight: Bavaria is in a transit dispute with Austria.
In addition, the highways to the coasts of Italy, France and Croatia are sometimes overcrowded.
And the traffic towards Northern Europe will also be considerable.
