Five people were injured, two of them seriously, in an attack on a nightclub in southern Spain.

"The attack took place in the city of Marbella, which many people go to for their holidays," the Associated Press quoted the police as saying in a statement.

She added that "two of the injured are in critical condition, an Irish man and a woman," whose nationality she did not specify.

Police confirmed the arrest of the attacker, while his motives were not yet clear.
