Opinion | Hananel Dayan to Yuval Dayan: Elites Against the Common People Israel today

2022-07-18T07:22:35.266Z

One refused to shake hands with the Chief of Staff because he was involved in the disengagement • The other refused to shake hands with the President of the United States due to her belief

On Wednesday, May 3, 2006, an outstanding soldier named Hananel Dayan was invited to the President's House to receive a certificate.

He refused to shake the hand of then-Chief of Staff Dan Halutz due to his involvement in the disengagement plan.

16 years and a few months later, a young singer, Yuval Dayan, was invited to the President's House to perform before the President of the United States. At the ceremony, the singer refused to shake the hand of the President of the United States, for reasons of touch.

Apparently there is no connection between the cases, and in a reformed society there should be no connection.

But there is a connecting line between Dayan and Dayan and it is not the act itself, but the reaction of the elites to the apparent impudence of the mortals in their encounter with the monarchy.

Hananel's story could have been simple: he should have been reprimanded or not, in the military, like any soldier who is rude, according to his commanders.

But the elitist insult of Elazar Stern, head of the ACA, and Yair Lapid, a columnist for Yedioth Ahronoth at the time, raised their eyebrows.

Stern leaked the soldier's details to Lapid, violating his privacy and dignity and above the trust of the public and the soldiers in the military system, in order to avenge the rude soldier who refused to shake hands with those who commanded the disengagement and at the same time sold shares during the fighting.

Lapid pardoned the secret military documents as if they were the reports of the Agranat Committee, and in his venomous column he came out against the soldier with a variety of nicknames: "Hananel the Swearer", "Hananel the Madman", "Hananel the Swearer", "Hananel the Pervert"; Hananel received a handful of curses from Lapid with his hand to the chief of staff.

Thus an outstanding soldier became the country's number one enemy.

Thanks to the leak, Lapid made his way to the presidency of the Israeli elite and to the prime minister's chair, and Elazar Stern, thanks to his ability to leak military documents, was appointed Israel's intelligence minister.

Hananel was dragged to court, which is like poor compensation from Stern.

Yuval Dayan also refused to shake hands, for a completely different reason - religious.

She asked to keep in touch with the American president.

Like Hananel, she did not seek to produce provocation, she sought to maintain her way of life.

The storm of course was not long in coming, how the young singer dares not to pay homage to the American president, even though that was not her intention at all.

She announced her intention in advance, and the American president is not fulfilling the required rules of ceremony in front of the hosts.

As in the case of Hananel, dozens of commentators, journalists and pamphlets on their own behalf opened a commission of inquiry: Why is she singing if a woman’s voice is pubic?

Why not exclude a bearded face?

Suddenly the great atheists became arbitrators of Jewish law.

Both Hananel and Yuval sought to avoid an act because of their beliefs, and both were rolled in the media with tar and feathers.

Because if there is one thing that the elites in Israel and in the world hate, it is disrespect from the common people.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
