This time, compared to the previous test, the probability has increased that the hypothesis found in the DNA is indeed that of Habani, who claims that Kravchenko wore his pants on the day she murdered Rada.

As for Zdorov?

No findings on examination link him to the murder

By the end of the evidentiary phase of Roman Zadorov's retrial, the parties have already begun to think about the ant work that awaits them in preparation for the submission of the summaries to the court.

Mountains of evidence must be refined and summarized by the defense and prosecution, so that a clear and convincing document can reach the judges.

Before everyone left the courtroom, they also mentioned that at the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine, 56 hairs are waiting for mitochondrial DNA tests. Here at trial.

A similar test in the past has already found some probability that the hypothesis may have belonged to Adir Habani.

Throughout the trial it was evident that the judges attached weight to other evidence, while to the field of mitochondrial DNA testing they attached less importance.

In the 17 hairs examined at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, there is a statistical probability that they belong to Tair Rada.

In the past, the Institute of Forensic Medicine worked on extracting DNA from the hypotheses. 18 of the 56 hypotheses produced mitochondrial DNA.

Explanation: From a hair with a root, nuclear DNA can be extracted. In nuclear DNA, the identification is certain.

In a hair without a root, it is not possible to perform a test of nuclear DNA, but a test of mitochondrial DNA.

In contrast to the certainty of identification obtained from nuclear DNA, in the mitochondrial DNA test it is difficult to determine the degree of suitability for a particular person, and it can only be determined that there is some statistical probability.

The result of the test we published today states that in the 17 hairs examined by Dr. Nurit Bublil, director of the biological laboratory at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, there is a statistical probability that they belong to Tair Rada. Ola Kravchenko's partner, and he claims that Kravchenko is the one who murdered Tair Rada, and that she wore his pants that day.

The probability that this hypothesis belongs to Habani is greater than the probability attributed to "his" first hypothesis found.

In addition, from the hypotheses examined now and in the past, a mitochondrial profile corresponding to Roman Zdorov or Olga Kravchenko was not obtained.

"Surprising find"

In her testimony at trial, Bublil said that the result of the "first" hypothesis was a "surprising finding" for her, and she even said that she was moved by the same result.

In a most unusual way that has never been the case before and since then, she and the director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Dr. Chen Kugel, have even released a videotaped statement that has been circulated to the media.

Another brick next to the doubts

How will the new findings affect the main characters in the affair?

Defendant Roman Zadorov can today feel that another brick has been added alongside doubts that have already accumulated in the judges' opinion.

Throughout the trial the judges did not hide their feelings about the existence of doubt in the guilt of the accused.

Mitochondrial DNA vision seemed marginal.

They may now not be able to push aside the discussion of this evidence and demand to deal with it. A recommendation according to which "the panel that will hear the retrial will, as far as it deems appropriate, also examine the possibility of discussing the possible consequences, if any, of the alleged mitochondrial findings."

The results of the laboratory from today bring back to the stage Adir Habani and Ola Kravchenko.

Habani, who was Kravchenko's partner at the time of the murder, claimed six years later that she had confessed to him about the murder.

He claimed she told him she was wearing his pants that day.

Judge Meltzer in his retrial has already ruled that "the incriminating version provided by Habani is problematic, and that no statements were found from Kravchenko's directly linking her to the murder. "Certainly not those who have the power at this stage to 'turn the bowl upside down' and cast real doubt on the applicant's conviction, it is easy and material that there is no evidence in this evidence to prove Kravchenko's guilt in the act."

At the retrial, Kravchenko and Habani testified in camera and it was difficult to get an impression of their weight.

However, it could be understood that the panel of judges did not take this path and dealt seriously with other issues, such as the footwear of foreign shoes.

The question is whether the court will now decide to return to the issue of hypotheses and what weight this will have.
