Wong Wai Kin, Senior Scientific Officer of the Observatory, said in an interview with RTHK's "Millennium" today that as the subtropical high ridge extends westward, the weather in southern China and Hong Kong has been fine in the past few days and this week. According to the forecast, the westward extension of the tropical high ridge is quite obvious. , and the wind will weaken in the next one or two days. It is expected to continue to be extremely hot in the next few days. The temperature is more likely to rise to 35 degrees or above this Friday, and the New Territories may be one or two degrees higher.
He explained that the subtropical high pressure ridge is a large-scale cross-flow system that covers the northwestern Pacific Ocean in summer, and has the opportunity to extend westward in July.
Huang Weijian pointed out that the Observatory will issue a hot weather warning based on factors such as daytime temperature (above 33 degrees or above), wind and humidity.
The records of the past two years show that there were 20 days in July of the previous year above 33 degrees, 17 days last year, and 9 days so far this year. In terms of the distribution of hot nights, there were 21 days in July the previous year and 18 days last year. Today, this year, there are 13 days.
