A new confrontation in the Bellavista prison in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas in Ecuador left 13 people dead and two injured.
As confirmed by the Government, a fight was reported shortly after 4 pm (local time) and Police, Armed Forces and health personnel were referred.
The situation was controlled hours later and the number of prisoners who died in the prison, located 43 miles (70 kilometers) southwest of Quito, the capital, was confirmed.
"The institutions in charge of internal and external security continue to guard the Center.
Meanwhile, the verification of the deceased will be carried out by the Ecuadorian Prosecutor's Office,
" the National Service for Comprehensive People's Care said on Twitter. Adult Women Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI).
Some users on Twitter reported that several prisoners were dismembered due to the disputes.
This Monday there were also clashes in the El Inca prison in Quito.
The situation was controlled and apparently did not escalate, according to the country's newspaper El Comercio.

The incident occurs after 43 deaths and several injuries were recorded in the same penitentiary in May, for which it was reported as a response to the transfer of a prisoner to this penitentiary.

Also in early April, 20 prisoners died and dozens of people were injured in a riot at the 'El Turi' prison, a prison located in the south of the country.
The cause was violence between two sides.
According to The Associated Press news agency, since 2021 about 370 people have been murdered in Ecuador's prisons.
The reasons point to clashes between mafias.
