Kempfenhausen

– When you look at the film that the Kempfenhausen students made for the MoviEUnited Award, your mood inevitably rises: shots from above with the drone, many happy young people saying sentences like “We will tackle problems together” or “And coming to solutions together – this is what democracy looks like”

.

Yes, that would be the idea behind democracy.

One becomes quite confident when one looks at the young people in the film of the Q-Seminar of the Landschulheim Kempfenhausen.

Especially knowing that they came third in the film competition.

Great confirmation on the big stage: Luzia Hartlieb and Justin Tichy were happy about third place in the MoviEUnited competition.

One of the criteria was the length, or rather: the shortness of the clip.

It should only be one minute, as supervising teacher Christian Helfricht explains.

“A clip was required.

It's a format that young people are used to from TikTok.” The sequences are correspondingly short without seeming hasty.

Pupils on the sports field, on the jetty, in front of a board with complicated physical calculations that explain why the EU is important to them.

The clip is fun to watch.

Based on the announcement of the prize, the students thought about a production process, says Helfricht.

There is a certain pressure due to the competition: “A deadline helps” is his experience.

We worked intensively for four weeks.

It is Helfricht's experience that such a short film in particular requires a lot of work.

"You have to think a lot more about that." The students took over the production, wrote the concept and the script.

Shooting on the set and post-production are also in the hands of the students, while the teachers take care of the material and technology, says Helfricht.

"We are the material muggles and explain how sound and light work."

Looking at the result, it was obviously a perfect division of labour.

In the Landschulheim Kempfenhausen they are proud of the recent film award.

"There were a lot of submissions," says Helfricht's colleague Markus Listl.

The makers of eleven film contributions were invited to the award ceremony at the Deutsches Museum in Munich at the beginning of July.

"There was great joy when it was announced that Justin Tichy and Luzia Hartlieb's group of students had won third place, which was worth 500 euros," says Listl.

"The success is all the more gratifying because films from film schools were also admitted to this competition," emphasizes Listl.

The recent success joins the long line of film awards that the Landschulheim Kempfenhausen has already received.

Listl cannot say how many it is, but a prize at European level is new.

Where does the Kempfenhauser get their creativity from?

"I don't know either," says Listl, who for many years, together with Helfricht and Susanne Lambert, has been supervising a working group in the lower grades and an upper grade course.

"I don't know what we're doing differently.

It's up to the students' ideas.

We just make sure that they implement them properly.” Helfricht is pleased that the Landschulheim Kempfenhausen is now considered a “school competence center for film”.
