Britain today (Tuesday) experienced the hottest day in its history.

According to the Meteorological Bureau in the country, the temperature in Charlwood in the Surrey region has reached 40.2 degrees Celsius - the highest ever recorded in the UK.

The previous record was 38.7 degrees Celsius, which was recorded at Cambridge in July 2019. According to the bureau, the degrees today are still expected to climb and may even reach 41.

In fact, Britain is now warmer than 98.8% of the planet.

According to Ben Nool, an American meteorologist, the UK is now one of the hottest places on earth, with the exception of California, the Sahara Desert, France, Belgium, the Middle East, India and western China are warmer.

"The highest temperatures in the UK are expected to be 30 degrees Celsius higher than the global average of the maximum temperature. In other words, this is an anomaly at a global level."

Yellow warnings of thunderstorms were issued today regarding parts of England tomorrow afternoon.

Southeast England, south west, London, central England and east will witness thunderstorms and heavy showers.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned of floods, as well as power outages.

In Western Europe, the heat wave and with it deadly fires also continued.

Several cities in France have recorded the highest temperature of all time, while about 2,000 firefighters are battling huge flames in the southwest of the country.

In the city of Nantes, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, it was recorded 42 degrees yesterday compared to a record of 40.3 recorded in 1949.

Brest in Brittany recorded 39.9 degrees - four degrees higher than the 2002 peak of 35.1.

Victims in France have not yet reported any casualties.

But in Spain, a 69-year-old shepherd died in a forest fire in the northwestern province of Zamora.

On Sunday he died in a firefighter area.

On Monday, a man in his fifties died of a heat stroke in Madrid.

Across the country, more than 510 people have died due to the heat.

Near the northern city of Tabara, a man who tried to help put out the fire, escaped the flames and was flown to the hospital.

Spanish authorities have reported that more than 20 forest fires are still raging in the south and northwest, where the flames have destroyed tens of thousands of acres of land.

In Portugal a thousand firefighters are fighting fires in the north.

The death toll from Monday's fires rose to four in Portugal, after a car veered off the road as it tried to escape the flames near Villa Real in the north.

60 people were injured in fires last week.

"We found the car and the two people in it, about 70 years old, completely burned out," said Morsa mayor Mario Artur Lopez.

Even today, heat records are expected to break, according to meteorologists, as the warm air that has surrounded large parts of Europe in recent weeks is moving north and east into eastern France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.

The Dutch weather service KNMI announced that the temperature could reach more than 38 degrees today, and issued an orange warning in the center and south of the country.

In Belgium, authorities have warned of temperatures of more than 40 degrees.

The European Commission has announced that drought warnings have been issued for 46% of EU territory.

In addition, air pollution is skyrocketing in the UK, France and southern Europe amid heat waves and fires.

Scientists at the European Union's Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service (CAMS) today warned of unhealthy levels of ozone pollution across southern and western Europe, and soon in the northwest.

Ozone production is accelerated during a heat wave, and according to scientists, ozone pollution will worsen with worsening climate change.
