Starnberg - The Bavarian Ministry of Finance is disbursing a total of 11.5 million euros for broadband expansion in Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria and Swabia.

The district of Starnberg also receives a subsidy.

Which projects can be realized with it.

“A modern digital infrastructure is a cornerstone for the future viability of a region.

Efficient networks are the 'gateway to the world' of our entire digital everyday life!

For years, the Free State of Bavaria has been massively committed on a voluntary basis to enable the best possible care for its citizens, especially in rural areas.

Today shows once again that the Free State and the municipalities are actively pulling together to achieve this common goal.

Ten municipalities, nine schools and a town hall from Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria and Swabia are receiving a total of around 11.5 million euros in funding for their digital future today," said Finance and Homeland Minister Albert Füracker at the handover of gigabit funding decisions on Monday in Munich.

Municipal institutions benefit from the funding

According to a press release from the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Homeland, a total of ten municipal facilities in Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria and Swabia will benefit from a grant of EUR 425,000 under the Bavarian guideline for the promotion of fiber optic connections and WLAN infrastructure for public schools, planned hospitals and town halls (GWLANR ): “The Bavarian educational institutions are highly competent knowledge brokers and the use of digital media has now become part of everyday life in all schools.

The gigabit connection of nine schools with over 2,500 students will enable an even more modern learning environment in the future.

In addition, the town hall of the municipality of Valley will be connected to high-performance fiber optics in the future," says Füracker.

89 percent of public schools are gigabit-enabled

Since 2018, 3,702 institutions, including 2,841 public schools, have been funded with around 104 million euros throughout Bavaria.

With the Bavarian funding program "Glass Fiber/WLAN Guideline", all public schools in Bavaria can be connected directly to high-performance fiber optics.

89 percent of public schools are already supplied with gigabit capability.

With the Bavarian Gigabit Directive, the Free State has paved the way and is the first region in the European Union to be able to promote fiber optic expansion where a network operator already offers at least 30 Mbit/s (so-called “grey spots”).

So far, more than 1,178 municipalities have entered the funding process, and 64 percent of all Bavarian households are gigabit-enabled.

Bavaria's ambitious goal is: Gigabit throughout Bavaria by 2025.

As the largest federal state, Bavaria is above the national average in all areas when it comes to broadband coverage.

Around 98% of households in Bavaria already have fast internet.

After completion of all ongoing projects, over 99% of households in Bavaria will be able to surf the Internet with high speed.

When it comes to the supply of 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s, Bavaria is also well above the national average: 91% of all Bavarian households have at least 100 Mbit/s.

In the course of Bavarian broadband funding, the Free State has invested around 1.7 billion euros since 2014.

This means that more than 66,000 kilometers of fiber optics will be laid in Bavaria.

Within the framework of their municipal planning sovereignty, the municipalities decide on the use of a subsidy procedure and on the scope of the subsidy areas.

To the districts of Dingolfing-Landau, Erding, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mühldorf a.

Inn, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, Weilheim-Schongau and Ostallgäu were given funding notices for fiber optic development in accordance with the Bavarian gigabit guidelines.
