Freising/Nandlstadt

– The district of Freising has fished in 350 high-quality bunk beds and more for disaster control.

Only recently, the lucrative deal would not have been possible from a purely logistical point of view.

Because at that time there was no warehouse available in the district, like Michael Wüst, local representative of THW Freising.

Then came Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, which violated international law - and a stream of refugees.

"With great cooperation and a high degree of creativity, district fire brigades, BRK, Johanniter and THW have turned gyms into emergency shelters," praised an impressed District Administrator Helmut Petz at an event recently.

The district purchased many reusable materials for the construction of the accommodation, such as construction fence elements for the construction of living quarters, which ensure a minimum of privacy.

"Whereas it was previously not possible to store such equipment centrally, we have now been able to remedy the situation," reports THW boss Wüst.

District administrator emphasizes: "Have to remain responsive"

The district has rented a hall in Nandlstadt, which can now be used by the Freisinger aid organizations as a disaster control camp.

That simplifies a lot in an emergency, emphasized Wüst.

After all, the required material can be accessed quickly.

District Fire Councilor Manfred Danner is also happy: "With the hall, we finally have the storage space that we have been asking for for years."

The hall is also a great asset for District Administrator Helmut Petz.

"We have to remain responsive," he recently stressed.

"Right now the gyms are empty, but the world is on the move and who knows what's going to happen." Then there's climate change, as Danner points out.

"The storm events that are becoming more frequent and severe are also leading to more and more disaster control operations."

The new warehouse is already worth its weight in gold

The fact that the storage capacities are urgently needed was already evident last Saturday.

Thanks to the initiative of BRK district manager Albert Söhl, the district was able to purchase 350 high-quality bunk beds with the associated 700 mattresses and dozens of pallets with duvets, pillows and bed linen.

As Wüst announced, the equipment comes from the former Erding Air Base, where the camp is currently being closed.

A convoy of 13 trucks made up of BRK, Johanniter, THW and fire brigades was needed to get around 100 pallets to Nandlstadt.

Since the pallets proved to be non-standard, Wüst looked at his planning documents several times before he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

"Ultimately, all the goods - apart from a small fraction - could be transported to the disaster control hall in Nandlstadt in just one trip."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

It is possible that the hall in Nandlstadt is only temporary.

As already reported, the district is planning a new fire brigade training and disaster control center at the Kammermüllerhof in Freising.

Among other things, a separate warehouse for disaster control equipment is to be built here in the future.
